It also includes information on the rules and regulations around Cree activities such as hunting, fishing, and trapping, as well as the conservation of migratory bird populations. Each of our nine Cree communities has what is called a “Community Justice Committee” designed to provide restorative approaches to address criminal activities, anti-social conduct and serious or persistent law infractions. This section provides a description of these committees, and their purpose, and explains how they complement the traditional criminal justice system. It also touches on how the Department provides training to local Justice Committees, based on their unique needs. This section provides a description of the key gatherings the Department has been involved in, where individuals from inside and outside of the Cree Nation are brought together to discuss and reflect on issues, such as family violence and youth engagement. The Department strongly believes in these events as a way to mobilize a unified effort to create the conditions for a safe and prosperous Cree Nation.
